Qatar
Qatar, the host nation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has been preparing for years to make sure the event is a success. The country has built new stadiums and infrastructure, and is working to ensure that visitors have a great experience. Qatar is also home to some of the world’s best players, including Barcelona star Neymar.
The United States
The United States has been one of the most successful countries in the history of the FIFA World Cup. The US team has won the tournament three times, and finished as runners-up twice. The US is also one of only two countries to have qualified for every single World Cup tournament.
The US first qualified for the World Cup in 1930, and reached the semi-finals that year. They suffered a shock defeat to eventual champions Uruguay in that tournament, but bounced back by winning their first ever World Cup title in 1934. The US defended their title successfully four years later, before losing to Brazil in the 1950 final.
After a period of decline, the United States made it back to the World Cup in 1990. They reached the knockout stage of that tournament before losing to eventual champions Germany. Four years later, the US made it all the way to the semi-finals before losing to Brazil again. In 2002, they reached the quarter-finals before losing to Germany once more.
Most recently, in 2014, the United States made it through to the round of 16 before being knocked out by Belgium. They will be hoping to go further in this year's edition of the tournament.
Canada
In Canada, the FIFA World Cup is always a big deal. This year’s tournament is no exception and Canadians are getting behind their team. Led by captain Christine Sinclair, the Canadian women’s national team is ranked fifth in the world and is looking to make a deep run in the tournament.
The Canadian men’s national team is not ranked as high, but they are still a force to be reckoned with. They are led by captain Michael Bradley and will be looking to make some noise in the tournament as well.
Both of Canada’s national teams have a chance to make history this summer and Canadians will be cheering them on every step of the way.
Mexico
The Mexico national football team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup a record fifteen times, appearing in every tournament since 1994. The team is one of eight nations to have won two of the three most important men’s titles recognized by FIFA: the World Cup, the Confederations Cup, and the Summer Olympic Games Football Tournament. Mexico also reached the Round of 16 at both the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
El Tri's biggest victory occurred at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup when they defeated Brazil 4–3 in the final. Mexico has achieved their best result at a FIFA World Cup in recent history by finishing in sixth place at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. On June 23, 2018, Mexico was drawn into Group F along with Germany, Sweden, and South Korea for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
England
As the host nation, England automatically qualified for the 1966 FIFA World Cup. They were drawn into Group 1 with Argentina, Mexico and France.
England started their campaign with a goalless draw against Argentina. This was followed by a 4-0 win against Mexico, with Geoff Hurst scoring a hat-trick. The final group game against France ended in a 2-0 victory for England, with both goals coming from Hurst again.
This meant that England finished top of their group and progressed to the quarter-finals where they faced West Germany. After 90 minutes the score was 2-2, with England goals coming from Martin Peters and Hurst. The game went to extra time and, in the 101st minute, Hurst completed his hat-trick to give England a 3-2 lead. West Germany pulled one back in the 119th minute but it wasn't enough and England won 3-2 to progress to the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, England faced Portugal. After another goalless 90 minutes, the game went to extra time where Portugal took the lead in the 95th minute through Eusebio. England equalised in the 109th minute through Bobby Charlton and then took the lead in the 118th minute through Hurst again. Portugal scored in injury time to make it 3-3 but it wasn't enough and England won 5-3 on aggregate to reach the final.
The final saw
France
France has qualified for the FIFA World Cup fourteen times, the first being in 1930. They have won two titles, one in 1998 and one in 2018. France has also been a runner-up three times, in 2006, 2016, and 2019.
This year’s FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th. France is in Group F with Argentina, Uruguay, and Morocco.
The team’s captain is Hugo Lloris, with Paul Pogba as their vice-captain. Some key players include Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé, and Ousmane Dembélé.
Brazil
Brazil is a country in South America with a rich footballing culture and history. They have won the FIFA World Cup a record five times, and they are the only team to have played in every single edition of the tournament. They are also the most successful team in the history of the Copa América, having won it eight times.
Brazil's national team is known for its attacking style of play and for its star players. Some of Brazil's most famous players include Pelé, Garrincha, Ronaldo, Neymar, and Ronaldinho.
The Brazilian national team has had great success in recent years, winning the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and finishing fourth at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They will be looking to add another World Cup title to their collection in 2018.
Russia
Russia, the host country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is a transcontinental nation in Eastern Europe and North Asia. With an area of 17,075,200 square kilometers, Russia is the largest country in the world by landmass. It extends across eleven time zones and has a wide range of climates and terrain.
Russia has a rich history and culture, dating back to the 9th century. The country has produced some of the world's most renowned writers, artists, musicians, and thinkers. Today, Russia is a federal semi-presidential republic with a diverse population of 144 million people.
As the host country of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Russia has been working hard to prepare for the tournament. Russian president Vladimir Putin has promised that the event will be "safe and secure," and over $11 billion has been spent on infrastructure projects in anticipation of the tournament. From new stadiums to improved airports and railroads, Russia is pulling out all the stops to make sure that visitors have a wonderful experience at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Qatar
The FIFA world cup is just around the corner and excitement is mounting as to who will take home the coveted trophy. One team that will be looking to make their mark on the tournament is Qatar. The small Middle Eastern nation has never qualified for a World Cup before, but they will be hoping to change that this year.
Qatar have been drawn in a tough group alongside reigning champions Germany, Asian giants South Korea and Africa's representatives Tunisia. It's going to be a tough challenge for Qatar, but if they can overcome these obstacles they could well find themselves in the knockout stages of the competition.
Qatar will be led by their star player Almoez Ali, who was the top scorer at last year's Asian Cup. If he can replicate that form on the world stage then Qatar could cause some upsets at this summer's World Cup.
