However, as we all know, there is so much more to this tournament than just games being played on a soccer field. It doesn't matter if your favorite team won or lost; what matters is the experience you had with them. The best moments of the current football world cup in Qatar
There have been so many great moments from this year's world cup. One of my favorites was when Mexico beat Germany 1-0 on June 17th, 2018, and advanced to the round of 16. It was such a shocking result and it ended up being one of the biggest upsets in football history. The Mexican fans were going crazy, they rushed onto the field and started celebrating with their team right after their win. It was a very powerful moment that has stayed with me ever since it happened. Another favorite moment for me was watching Croatia finally take down France 4-2 on July 12th, 2018. I had been waiting for them to do something all tournament long and it just felt like everything finally clicked for them at the end of their game against France. They deserved that victory because they played an amazing game, but their joy afterward seemed even more satisfying. Seeing the Croatian players high-five each other as well as hug each other and cry while jumping out of happiness made me so happy! It was almost like they knew how much it meant to the people back home to see them doing what they love. Other than those two moments, there are many others worth mentioning. Argentina's 1-1 draw with Iceland on June 16th, 2018 is also worth mentioning because it helped them advance to the round of 16 and it was their first time qualifying since 1990. It was also thrilling to watch Nigeria score 2 goals in stoppage time against Croatia on June 21st, 2018 which led to a 2-2 tie. It may not have been the best match or result for either side but there was no doubt that both teams gave it their all until the final whistle blew. Lastly, England's defeat by Belgium on July 14th, 2018 will go down as one of the most painful moments in English football history. Their manager Gareth Southgate told his players that he would rather lose 3-0 than get knocked out by a smaller country like Panama or Tunisia and he ultimately got his wish. But losing to Belgium won't be too hard to deal with considering they're ranked #3 in FIFA rankings while England ranks #14 (but who knows what will happen after they did so well during this tournament). It was so exciting to be part of this world cup and witness these events unfold before my eyes. I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my favorite moments from the current football world cup in Qatar!
